JDF Chitose
These heavy cruisers are designed to penetrate wormhole defenses and establish a safe corridor for follow-on vessels to enter a star system. They carry heavy forward armor, counterlasers, and independently targeting missiles that are released as soon as a wormhole transit is made. An older design, the first vessel of this class was launched in 2098 and classified as a battleship. As newer drive designs came online, heavier ships became feasible, and vessels in the 14,000-ton range that were not dismantled or sold were reclassified as heavy cruisers.
